EPIC: Game Pics – 4k Titan Legions vs. 1000 Sons

.

.

Hi guys,

Back with some pictures of the game!

Some thoughts first:

The two mid-range firepower titans were obscene – massive amounts of long range firepower!

The combo of the Plasma Destructors and the Support Missile worked well – unload turn 1, shoot missile turn 2, then back ready to unload plasma again turn 3.

Thunderbolts are very useful in the AMTL.

The Titan Legion list still feels a little unfair for the opponent to me, especially to face unexpectedly.

EPIC: 4k Titan Legions vs. 1000 Sons

.

.

Hi guys,

Back to EPIC for the first time in absolutely ages, I hope you all enjoyed the digression in Fantasy. I have a 4k game versus my friend Ben arranged for this afternoon and have decided to dust off my Titan Legion and take them out for a spin.

Given that the points were 4k, I had thought about trying out my Imperator for the first time, but with this being our first game of EPIC in a good while, I decided to try something a little different. As I know Ben tends towards fewer activations in his armies, I thought I would give a list without any Warhounds a try. Helping this along is my love for the style of the old Reaver chassis!

Both Reaver models are so much sexier than the Beetleback...

Both Reaver models are so much sexier than the Beetleback…

So, the list:

Reaver – Legate, Quake x 2, Carapace Landing Pad, Legate
Reaver – Laser Blaster x 2, Volcano Cannon
Reaver – Plasma Destructor x 2, Support Missile
Reaver – Vet Princeps, Power Saw, Plasma Cannon, Laser Burner
Reaver – Vet Princeps, TCCW, Plasma Cannon, Laser Burner
Recon
TBolts
Tbolts
4000

So that is eight activations which isn’t too bad considering the price of the Reavers, as well as a couple of air formations for defensive AA. The highlight has to be fitting five Reavers in, with some really quite mean weapon loadouts.

Woah, Technicolour!

Woah, Technicolour!

The Reavers neatly divide into three groups – Legate SC with long range artillery for blitzguarding, two shooty Reavers packing a good mix of MW, TK and AT firepower for the middle of the board, and two Reavers geared for close assault with a mix of CC, FF, and a little extra ranged MW.

I haven’t chosen which missile my support missile will be yet, possibly a Deathstrike if Ben brings a Titan, or a Barrage Missile to lay down loads of blastmarkers on some infantry if not.

I will let you all know how it goes, and should get some pictures of the game to go with it.

Have a good weekend!

BATREP – Thousand Sons vs. Maelstrom Beserkers Fleet

Hi guys,

First apologies, I have been bad and not been posting much. I know, I know, but real life has been turning the screws recently and thesis work has been ramping up.

Still, as an apology I offer you loads of pictures from my most recent game of BFG, possibly split across two posts. My friend Ben came over to play his newly painted / built Thousand Sons fleet, using the Chaos fleet list from the rulebook, while I decided to play with my new, but unpainted, Maelstrom fleet list. My fleet contained a Devastation (the Styx model stood in for it), two Slaughter Class Cruisers with Mark of Khorne, and three light cruisers from the Book of Nemesis – two Heretic class with Mark of Khorne and one Schismatic. The fleet relies on speed and manueverability to get in range to unleash firepower at close range before attempting to board the enemy.

MWIH – My Week in Hobby 3

Hi again guys,

A relatively slow week for me, just one game in as I had to miss attending my local club last week (and this week) due to work. Still I managed to get some gaming and some painting in nevertheless!

On Saturday I popped round to my friend Ben’s house for a 3k game of EPIC. I had recently bought a new Ork army for Epic so decided to take them out for a spin. The game was very grindy – hordes of Orks versus unkillable Thousand Sons – but in the end I edged out a victory. Some pics:

The game revolved around a series of massive grindy engagements right in the centre of the board pitting the numbers of the Orks against the formidable armour saves of the Thousand Sons.

I have also managed to get some painting in over the course of the week, painting up another formation from my EPIC Dark Angel army. The formation is a Devastator Detachment with a Librarian character upgrade for the FF Macro-Weapon attack.

MWIH – My Week in Hobby 2

Hi guys,

Welcome to the second post in this series, slightly less full than last week!

This week, on Wednesday, I played another game of Mighty Empire as a board game against two of my friends, Mike and Tom. It well well, although some issues cropped up with the way in which the realms are rolled up at the beginning of the game which put one player (me) at a severe disadvantage. Still the game played well with three players and it opened up some interesting avenues for further exploration.

Then on Saturday, I played a fun game of 40k versus my friend Ben. He is just getting back into using his 40k Thousand Sons, so we paired off his marines against a Witchhunter Inquisitor army. Just in case anyone is interested my 1500pt list was: Inquisitor Lord w/ CC retinue in a Rhino, Inquisitor w/ HBolter Servitor retinue, 5 x Death Cult Assassins, a Callidus Assassin, two units of 10 Stormtroopers with Plasma guns in Rhinos, two units of 5 Stormtroopers (one with 2 x Melta, one with 2 x Flamer), a Penitent Engine, and a mob of 18 Zealots with 3 Eviscerator Fanatics in it.

Last but not least, I have finally finished a formation of my EPIC Dark Angels army (that I started painting before the summer…) completing four stands of Assault Marines with a Chaplain character. The wash was still slightly wet when the photos were taken, and check out the difference in quality/size between the marines and the GW Chaplain model!

EPIC – Daemon Characters

Hi guys,

I am back from Belgium now, so blog posts should hopefully pick up again now I am back with all of my models. I played a game today against my friend Ben (Forgot My Tea) using the EPIC UK lists, my Lost and the Damned versus his Thousand Sons. 3,000 points, ending in a 3-1 victory to the Lost and the Damned. Some oddities to the lists though – no hellhounds available to the Lost and the Damned and Supreme Commander only available to Terminators in the Thousand Sons list.

Painting-wise, I am waiting for the cold / wet weather we have been having to clear so I can get on with spraying my EPIC Space Marines green, while converting a couple of Heavy models for Necromunda from Chaos cultists.

Still, the point of this post is to be the first in a series of posts on my recently painted EPIC Daemon army, built for the Deamon World list I am supposed to be developing.  First up, are the character models which make up the Daemon Princes in the army. All of the models come from the respective Warmaster Character packs, and although they are 10mm models given they are supposed to be Daemon Princes the difference scale is not something to worry about.

Nurgle Daemon Prince

Nurgle Daemon Prince

Nurgle Daemon Prince

Nurgle Daemon Prince

These are two Nurgle Daemon Princes. I am espcially pleased with the way the cream coloured robes have turned out on the second model and it is probably my favourite model in the entire army. The top model occasionally gets used as a Great Unclean One (as I think he is supposed to be in Warmaster) although he is a little small for a 4 DC model.

Khorne Daemon Prince / Bloodthirster

Khorne Daemon Prince / Bloodthirster

Khorne Champion on Juggernaut

Another 2 Daemon Princes, with one occasionally standing in for a Bloodthirster when needed. I quite the like the effect the Red Ink has given on the second models armour – nice and blood-splattered, and it provides a good contrast to the brass Juggernaut.

Tzeentch Daemon Prince

Tzeentch Daemon Prince

Last but not least, is my Tzeentch Daemon Prince. I have the Lord of Change model from Warmaster for this, which is quite sizeable but unpainted, so usually this model just stays as a lowly Daemon Prince.

Game Weekend – EPIC

On the Sunday of our weekend of gaming, Mike joined Ben, Andy and I for a big game of Epic. We had decided to go for Mike’s Space Marines and Ben’s Thousand Sons versus Andy’s Saim Hann Eldar and my Siegemasters – switching the sides up a little bit from our last big game. The game ended with the Eldar and Imperial Guard in control of more of the objectives, although there were still alot of forces left on the table ready to tussle!

4k Ben’s Thousand Sons vs. My Eldar

4k Thousand Sons vs. Eldar

As some of you may be aware, I am away from my models over the summer holidays. Fear not though, thanks to me saving a game I played a while ago, I can still bring you blistering EPIC action!

A while back Ben and I arranged a 4k game – his 1000 sons versus my eldar. Given that it was 4k, I thought I would push the boat out and take a Warlock titan. I tend to find a Warlock, while definitely a monster, a little bit too pricy for 3k. With the Warlock selected, the rest of the list pretty much took care of itself. I ended up taking:

Warlock

3 x Guardian formations (2 w/ Wraithguard, 1 x Heavy Weapons)

1 x Shining Spears w/ Exarch and Autarch

2 x Void Spinners, 1 x Storm Serpent

2 x Falcons

2 x min-sized Rangers

1 x Jetbikes

1 x Nightwings

Ben had decided to play his new Thousand Sons army, trying out the Neophyte formations and Land Raiders. He ended up taking:

1 x Scarab Occult w/ LRaiders, DPact, IBearer, Magister Templi

4 x Rubric Fellowship (3 w/ Rhinos, 4 DPacts, 3 IBearers)

2 x Neophyte formations

1 x War Coven

2 x Doomwings

2 x Oracle Titans

Some Lesser Daemons

The game started with me trying to target the left hand flank – Voidspinner-ing some Neophytes, before finishing them off with a guardian assault out of the Storm Serpent. Ben responded by making the most of his Oracle titans, advancing them to start the process of killing my guardians. He moved some 1000 Sons on foot over toward the building the guardians had just occupied, eventually driving them out after a couple of engagements (Damn, I hate fearless armies!). Over on the right hand flank I was a bit unsure of my actions – Ben had advanced quite alot of formations including the Scarab Occult in Land Raiders over that way, and all I had was the Warlock and some Rangers. Still, scout screening until I got a chance, I launched the Warlock at the Occult – coming away damaged but victorious! Parts of the Occult managed to escape (Fearless!), and hid to deny me BTS and his supreme commander. The Warlock supported another engagement initiated by the Rangers in the middle of the board, destroying the second Neophyte formation, but being reduced to only 1 DC.  The next turn, Ben cornered the Warlock, locking it between one of his Oracle titans and a flamer buffed Rubric formation, destroying the titan. The rest of the game was mop up really, with the big formations having been wiped out – I was desperately trying to kill his Magister Templi to get BTS – but his armour saves were impressive!

The game ended a draw (I think, correct me if I am wrong please, Ben)!
