BFG – Rogue Traders vs. Imperial Fleet

Rogue-Trader-Crew

Hi guys,

Sorry it has been so long since the last post – I haven’t been gaming much and life has been rather busy to be honest. Still, I am back with a bumper post detailing a game of BFG I recently had with Andy from Miniature Miscellany. He is currently painting down at GW HQ and doing some really nice Age of Sigmar Chaos models, so go have a look.

——————————–

The game was just a quickie, with small fleets, using the Convoy scenario as that seemed pretty thematic for the fleets we had chosen to play. Andy was using his Imperials, while I had chosen to bring out my Rogue Trader fleet. They are great for small games, with lots of choice, and work thematically for a number of the scenarios.

We set up the board with a scattering of asteroids and a planet (we were only using  4′ x 4′) and we were off.

IMG_2212

My fleet consisted of a pair of Dauntless Light Cruisers (both with Lances) and a squadron of Cobra escorts. Along with these I had my convoy, six regular transports and one heavy transport ship. I moved cautiously onto the table, warhips taking the lead.

IMG_2213In response, Andy moved one of his Dauntlesses forward, screened by his own Cobras.

IMG_2215
I loosed some shots, successfully blowing a few of Andy’s escorts up, while moving up with the rest of the fleet.

IMG_2217

Andy had a much better turn than me. He swung the Dauntless to the side, opening up his broadsides and targetting my Dauntlss. Firing his Cobra’s torpedoes, he struck home on my Cobras, destroying three, and also managed to damage my othr Dauntless.

IMG_2220

My return fire bouyed me up a littel – both Dauntlesses fired their lances at the Imperial Navy cruiser, striking home and knocking two DC off it. Lots of blast markes litter the starscape as the convoy surges forward.

IMG_2222

Andy responds by flipping over some of his other contact markers, revealing some Firestorm Frigates and another Dauntless which move forward into engagement range.

IMG_2224

Andy shifts forward, badly damaging my Dauntless, and closing in on the transport ships.

IMG_2227

My fleet gets congested trying to avoid the asteroid field, pincered by Andy’s oncoming fleet, and the perfect target for some torpedoes! Them combined with th fire from the ships knocks out the first transport and puts damage on pretty much every ship I have.

IMG_2229

In response, I curl one Dauntless around the back of the Imperial fleet, hoping to chase down the damaged cruiser and bracket the other vessels.

IMG_2231Andy pushes through my fleet, splitting the convoy, and laying down blast markers. His damaged dauntless cannot turn and drifts onwards.

IMG_2232

Andy’s damaged Dauntless finally bites the dust, but his Firestorms make short work of some of my transports. I cant turn fast enough to defend them and I can feel the game slipping away from me.

IMG_2233

Andy sneaks off a few more transports , and with both my Dauntlesses quite damaged, ekes out a win!

I hope you guys enjoyed that game report. We played another game and I have pics from it, so they should make their way up here eventually.

Thanks guys 🙂

EPIC: Game Pics – 4k Titan Legions vs. 1000 Sons

.

.

Hi guys,

Back with some pictures of the game!

Some thoughts first:

The two mid-range firepower titans were obscene – massive amounts of long range firepower!

The combo of the Plasma Destructors and the Support Missile worked well – unload turn 1, shoot missile turn 2, then back ready to unload plasma again turn 3.

Thunderbolts are very useful in the AMTL.

The Titan Legion list still feels a little unfair for the opponent to me, especially to face unexpectedly.

EPIC: 4k Titan Legions vs. 1000 Sons

.

.

Hi guys,

Back to EPIC for the first time in absolutely ages, I hope you all enjoyed the digression in Fantasy. I have a 4k game versus my friend Ben arranged for this afternoon and have decided to dust off my Titan Legion and take them out for a spin.

Given that the points were 4k, I had thought about trying out my Imperator for the first time, but with this being our first game of EPIC in a good while, I decided to try something a little different. As I know Ben tends towards fewer activations in his armies, I thought I would give a list without any Warhounds a try. Helping this along is my love for the style of the old Reaver chassis!

Both Reaver models are so much sexier than the Beetleback...

Both Reaver models are so much sexier than the Beetleback…

So, the list:

Reaver – Legate, Quake x 2, Carapace Landing Pad, Legate
Reaver – Laser Blaster x 2, Volcano Cannon
Reaver – Plasma Destructor x 2, Support Missile
Reaver – Vet Princeps, Power Saw, Plasma Cannon, Laser Burner
Reaver – Vet Princeps, TCCW, Plasma Cannon, Laser Burner
Recon
TBolts
Tbolts
4000

So that is eight activations which isn’t too bad considering the price of the Reavers, as well as a couple of air formations for defensive AA. The highlight has to be fitting five Reavers in, with some really quite mean weapon loadouts.

Woah, Technicolour!

Woah, Technicolour!

The Reavers neatly divide into three groups – Legate SC with long range artillery for blitzguarding, two shooty Reavers packing a good mix of MW, TK and AT firepower for the middle of the board, and two Reavers geared for close assault with a mix of CC, FF, and a little extra ranged MW.

I haven’t chosen which missile my support missile will be yet, possibly a Deathstrike if Ben brings a Titan, or a Barrage Missile to lay down loads of blastmarkers on some infantry if not.

I will let you all know how it goes, and should get some pictures of the game to go with it.

Have a good weekend!

At that point we had played a full six turns and had to finish the game.

We agreed that the game would be a draw – Evil had managed to breach the castle in a number of places, but the gate was still strongly held by Good. Also, while Evil had lost most of its hitting power (Nagash, Mortarchs, Chaos Dwarf general, etc), Good still had formidable forces (Hammerers w/ characters, Ironbreakers, 2 x Treemen etc) virtually untouched.

I hope everyone enjoyed the pictures 😀

Night of the Dead – Warhammer Fantasy 25,000pts Siege Game Pictures! (Deployment)

Hi Guys!

Back, and this time with a number of pictures from the big siege game my local club had recently. We had a few minor wobbles, with one of the players dropping out unexpectedly at the last minute, the venue having to be changed the day before, and being without a castle due to illness, but after a couple of hours of frantic Blue Peter-esque cutting and sticking we were ready to play.

The sides were 15kish of Undead / Daemons / Chaos Dwarves versus 10kish of Wood Elves / Dwarves.

Night of the Dead – Warhammer Fantasy Siege Mini-Campaign 3

The third scenario we played as a warm up game was the Toll House on the Bridge scenario from the old General’s Compendium book released by GW. One of the upside of my “old GW book” collecting habit is that it leaves me with lots of choice for scenarios, campaigns, and odd little units.

The scenario - apologies for the blurriness!

The scenario – apologies for the blurriness!

If you can’t make it out, the scenario involves a small group trying to sneak across a guarded bridge.

The disguised Elves begin their approach

Three manage to slip through before the alarm is raised. Once the Necromancer realises what is happening, the game is up and the Elves are quickly mobbed.

Three manage to slip through before the alarm is raised. Once the Necromancer realises what is happening, the game is up and the Elves are quickly mobbed.

This worked less well, hence the fewer photos, as the number disparity on either side made the chance the Elves would survive once the alarm was raised almost nil. While it might work with the Empire and Goblins originally in the book, it struggles with differing races which are worth wildly disparate points values.

Still, lesson learnt!
