40K – Yes, I actually played a game!

Hi guys,

A post to bring you up to date on the recent momentous event in my life – I actually played a game (my first in months!) and it was a great 40k clash between my Witch Hunters and the Astral Claws of Andy from Miniature Miscellany.

It was a nice simple 1,250pt game where we had both taken a selection of units – I took an Inquisitor Lord and Retinue, two units of Sisters, a Retributor Squad, a unit of Stormtroopers, and a Priest and some Arco-Flaggellants.

I hid my Arco's behind a Rhino and moved them up in response to Andy moving some marines forward

On the other flank, I placed my Retributors in a wood, and moved up some Sisters in a Rhino and the Inquisitor in their Immolator

The game ended with both of our armies badly bloodied and neither of us having managed to sieze a decisive advantage. I was, as always, rather pleased with my Arco-Flaggellants who munched alot  of marines in short order  and totallywasted my unit of Stormtroopers, who sat in a wood all game.

MWIH – My Week in Hobby 7

Ok guys,

Immolator

Immolator

Confession time – I have done almost no hobbying in the last week. No building of figures, no painting, and only a quick Kill Team game on Wednesday.

I took a Dominion Squad from the old Witch Hunters book as my Kill Team – a Veteran Superior with Bolt Pistol and CCW, Sister with Bolter, two sisters with Flamers, and two sisters with Melta Guns. Dominions have to be mounted in either a Rhino or an Immolator, so I chose a Heavy Flamer Immolator as their ride.

Sisters!

Sisters!

The game was a three player game between my Sisters, some Orks, and some Gray Knights. I drove my Sisters straight toward the Orks and unloaded with the templates, before being mostly shot off the board. High point was my Veteran Superior duking it out for three turns with the opposing Nob, despite having no decent wargear at all.

Next week I am thinking of maybe using a Seraphim squad, or going a bit wacky with an Inquisitorial Retinue.

Looking back on 2013

This blog has been running for almost two years now, which I far longer than I had hoped for it to last. This year has been pretty tumultuous, both in the mini-wargaming world, and in terms of my “real” work.

A quick run down of the hobby happenings of this past year on here:

The biggest thing to happen was the breaking of the news of Specialist Games, both GW and FW, being pulled – which saw my blog stats go completely mental with 3000+ views per day. Luckily the withdrawal, apart from sending eBay BFG prices skyrocketing, has not had too much of an impact on my hobby or the hobby generally. With new manufacturers like Exodus Wars, Troublemaker Games, and DRM, the loss of GW stuff has not been too big of a blow.

I have managed to finish painting:

Gothic Imperial Navy Fleet

Gothic Imperial Navy Fleet

A 3,000pt Imperial Navy fleet using the Gothic Sector list.

Titans

Titans

A 7,500pt EPIC Titan Legions – This still needs tarting up with fancier bases, detail painting, and legion banners. Plus I have an Emperor Titan to add to the force.

My new posse

A small Legends of the Old West Cavalry Posse.

Some of my WiP Epic Dark Angels

I have also begun painting my EPIC Dark Angels, which I now have undercoated and base coloured.

Slightly less done than last year, but I think that is excusable given the work circumstance!

Steel Legion

On the non-painting side of the hobby things have been a little different – the main thing being that I have gotten in 40k in a big way, collecting essentially three armies – Steel Legion, Sisters of Battle, and an Inquisition force – each of around 3,000pts.

I have also played my first ever game of Space Hulk, and picked up the amount of BFG, Necromunda, and Inquisimunda I have been playing. Sadly this means that Warhammer Fantasy and EPIC have taken a bit of a back seat, but I have still managed to get in a game or two.

Modelling wise, things have been relatively slow as well.

I have finished putting together a Bastion Imperial Navy Fleet (2,500pts) and a Chaos Maelstrom Fleet (1,500pts), but both now need painting etc.

New 40k Army – Sisters of Battle

Hi guys,

Just to leap in and prove I was there before the bandwagon arrives, I have recently taken possession of a Sisters of Battle army for 40k. Now some of you will know that 40k is not my favorite game system and I do still have a number of issues with it as a game system – but I have always loved the fluff and background of the 40k universe.

It is for that reason, and the ease of getting a game of 40k compared to a game of EPIC, that I have recently plunged into 40k – now collecting Steel Legion Imperial Guard, Sisters of Battle, and a mixed Inquisition force, each of around 3,000pts.

I have gone for quite a retro theme with this army, using the old style Rhinos to provide a bit of Gothic flavour to the army, while limiting myself to only sisters to draw a greater distinction between this army and the Inquisition force I am planning.

The army consists of:

Lord Inquisitor Karamazov

Celestine

3 x Cannonesses

20 Repentia

3 x 6 strong squads of Celestians

2 x 17 strong SoB squads

2 x 10 strong SoB squads

2 x 6 strong Retributor squads (1 w/ 4x HFlamers, 1 w/ 4 x MMeltas)

1 x 5 strong Seraphim

Penitent Engine

2 Exorcists

2 Rhinos

4 Immolators (2 HFlamer, 2 MMelta)
