BFG – Scratchbuild Ad-Mech Fleet 3

Hi guys,

Back again, with another of my converted Adeptus Mechanicus ships. This time is the turn of the Deus Inimicus, a Gothic class cruiser.

Deus Inimicus 1

Again, scrappy painting with some simple additions to try and sell th ad-mech nature of this ships. This time I used some brass wire and a few of the EPIC rhino dozer blades to tart up the ship hoping to give the suggestion of the Adeptus Mechanicus gift of “Advanced Shields. This gift means that weapons using the gunnery table suffer a right column shift when firing on a vessel equipped with Advanced Shielding and Lance weaponry firing on this vessel only score a hit on a roll of a 5+, which is a pretty deceent bump in survivability for a ship like the Gothic that wants to be within 30cm to fire its lances.

Deus Inimicus 2

In the context of the list, this ship packs a fair punch with five lances at 30cm, and is still firing 3 of them when crippled or on some of the special orders. I also plan on equipping this ship with special torpedoes for some variety and because I think they fit with the wacky nature of the Ad-Mech.

Just another simple post!

Looking back on 2013

This blog has been running for almost two years now, which I far longer than I had hoped for it to last. This year has been pretty tumultuous, both in the mini-wargaming world, and in terms of my “real” work.

A quick run down of the hobby happenings of this past year on here:

The biggest thing to happen was the breaking of the news of Specialist Games, both GW and FW, being pulled – which saw my blog stats go completely mental with 3000+ views per day. Luckily the withdrawal, apart from sending eBay BFG prices skyrocketing, has not had too much of an impact on my hobby or the hobby generally. With new manufacturers like Exodus Wars, Troublemaker Games, and DRM, the loss of GW stuff has not been too big of a blow.

I have managed to finish painting:

Gothic Imperial Navy Fleet

A 3,000pt Imperial Navy fleet using the Gothic Sector list.

Titans

Titans

A 7,500pt EPIC Titan Legions – This still needs tarting up with fancier bases, detail painting, and legion banners. Plus I have an Emperor Titan to add to the force.

My new posse

A small Legends of the Old West Cavalry Posse.

I have also begun painting my EPIC Dark Angels, which I now have undercoated and base coloured.

Slightly less done than last year, but I think that is excusable given the work circumstance!

Steel Legion

Steel Legion

On the non-painting side of the hobby things have been a little different – the main thing being that I have gotten in 40k in a big way, collecting essentially three armies – Steel Legion, Sisters of Battle, and an Inquisition force – each of around 3,000pts.

I have also played my first ever game of Space Hulk, and picked up the amount of BFG, Necromunda, and Inquisimunda I have been playing. Sadly this means that Warhammer Fantasy and EPIC have taken a bit of a back seat, but I have still managed to get in a game or two.

Modelling wise, things have been relatively slow as well.

I have finished putting together a Bastion Imperial Navy Fleet (2,500pts) and a Chaos Maelstrom Fleet (1,500pts), but both now need painting etc.

BFG – Overlords, Mars & Gothic

Ok, last blog post on this particular fleet – two Overlord Battlecruisers, a Mars Class Battlecruiser and a Gothic Class Cruiser.

Mars Class Battlecruiser, the Augustine, and the Gothic Class Cruiser, the Origen

Mars Class Battlecruiser, the Augustine, and the Gothic Class Cruiser, the Origen

I had a mini game of BFG re-introducing an ex-player to it, and am now a big fan of the Gothic Class. Unfortunately this fleet only has the one, but the Mars is also a favourite of mine.

Last up are two Overlord Battlecruisers, the Gaunilo and the Boethius. Normally viewed as overpriced and undergunned agaisnt normal fleets, thier 60cm WB make them invaluable against Eldar fleets – who make up a good chunk of my opponents!

3,000pts Gothic Sector Fleet

I will be putting all of these pics up on a seperate page in the header, along with the full fleet list. In other hobby news, the WHFB campaign I have been running at my local club is winding up with next week being the last turn and I have been getting in a couple of 40k games with my new Imperial Guard army (Hellhounds rock!)

I hope everyone else is having a good hobby-time!

BFG – Emperor Class Battleship

Aquinas, Emperor Class Battleship

Aquinas, Emperor Class Battleship

Next up in my newly painted BFG Imperial Navy fleet is the Emperor Class Battleship, Aquinas. This is the only battleship in the fleet (and one of only two battleship size I own – the other is a Chaos Despoiler class) and forms the flagship of this Imperial fleet.

Other side

Other side

I bought the model a while ago from eBay and have stripped it down and repainted it – that is why it is missing some of the lance turrets from the spine and side fins. Each set of weapons down the sides are either magnetised or just held in, so when I am able to find some excess battery / lance sections I will be making it able to interchange between any of the battleships available to the fleet.

The model was sprayed Army Painter Angel Green and then the detail picked out in silver / gold / ice blue. I am trying to tie all of my Imperial ships together by using the same ice blue for all of the viewing domes on thier bridges. since this picture was taken, the golden eagle sitting up on the top of the ship has had another coat or two of gold and is looking much better now!

Next up will be two posts on the cruisers in the fleet, then I have some recent Necromunda painting to be blogging about.

BFG – Imperial Navy Escorts

Hi guys,I have recently been painting up my second Imperial Navy fleet for Battlefleet Gothic. The first fleet was a quick 2,000pt Bakka fleet featured in previous posts, and on its own page up near the header, but this second fleet is using the Gothic sector list and comes in at 3,000pts. Once I get through the painting / posting of it, it will get its own header page and join the rest of the stuff up there.

In this post are the two escort squadrons that form part of the fleet – 5 Cobra Destroyers and 5 Sword-class Frigates. I am not a massive fan of escorts generally in BFG (except Eldar ones – can’t get enough of those!), so both these squadrons are included more for fluffiness and ease in smaller points games, than for looks / rules.

In contrast to the earlier Bakka fleet, I have done for a Dark Green, Cream and Brass colour scheme, which I am quite happy with. Some of the prow lining is a bit rough and ready at the moment, but I am happy to be playing with these models on the table top and look forward to the odd combined fleet action!

I am very happy with how smooth the cream went on over a gray basecoat, as I was expecting much bigger hassles.

—————————–

In other news, my Forgeworld BFG order has arrived (Ramilies, Orbital Defence, Monitors, Escort Carriers, Armed Frieghters etc) and I have been a busy beaver getting them all prepped and sprayed, so expect to see them making an appearance here soon-ish.

One piece of advice for people thinking of buying the Ramilies – get yourself ready for a real tussle trying to get the various pieces lined up straight! The resin pieces seem to be seriously out of alignment with each other, and even though I have managed to get the top looking respectable (with copious amounts of superglue, blood and greenstuff), the underside is still suffering from alignment issues.

Battlefleet Bakka – Lunars and Gothics

Hi guys,

I’ve just finished painting up my latest BFG fleet – a 2000pt Battlefleet Bakka list – and have a couple of pics. Eventually, once I have everything painted and pictured, I will do a seperate page at the top of the home area to gather all the pics together.

2 x Lunars

Bakka is mostly the same as the standard Imperial fleet list, with the a couple of new Battlecruisers and Escorts, so overall the fleet is pretty standard (2 Lunars, 2 Gothics, 2 Dominators) but also has a Mercury Class Battlecruiser (long rangeand good firepower but fragile), an Ad-mech Dictator for some ordnance, 6 Havoc escorts (WB with FP5) and 3 Viper Class Destroyers (Cobras with 3 Torps, no WB).

2 x Gothics

I haven’t had a chance to play with the fleet list yet, but am looking forward to getting them on the board. I bought them for a good price from a guy on Warseer, and given that some of the ships were already undercoated in that red, the colour scheme pretty much chose itself.

Also just a note to let anyone reading know – the blog has now passed 4,000 all time views!
