Batrep: BFG Escalating Engagement – Tau vs. Imperial Navy – Turn 1

Hi guys,

I know, the first batrep / post for a while on the blog, but I have recently started a new job at the Uni and have been exceptionally busy. My PhD is also coming to fruition and I am looking to submit it in January time, so that is more work!

Still, I have a Battlefleet Gothic battle report for you – 1200pts of Tau vs. Imperial Navy, playing the Escalating Engagement scenario from the BFG rule book. Essentially, in the Escalating Engagement scenario, you start with small portions of your fleet on the table while the rest of the ships steadily come on the edges through out the game. I am using my Bakka fleet in this game, possibly not a great choice versus Tau – Bakka traditionally has few launch bays while Tau specialise in ordnance heavy fleets. This first post will just be the first turn, but over the next couple of days I will get the rest of the report up on the blog.

I deploy my first ship, a Gothic class cruiser, behind a planet made from one of the Storm of Magic templates

Quick overview of the table - two planets, one medium one small, and a half ring of asteroids. Also note my opponent's Emissary class cruiser in its deployed position

The Emissary - blatently trying to steal a planet from the Imperium - moves towards the gap in the asteroid belt

On reaching the gap, the Emissary looses its torpedoes into the path of the Gothic

The Gothic 'Locks On' and moves past the torpedoes - firing on the Emissary once safely clear of the torpedoes.

Four hits put two points of damage on the shoddily build vessel, crippling it (1 hit on a shield, 1 hit braced away).

The torpedoes turn (what madness!) and just clip the back of the Gothic's base - one point of damage is done.

That is the end of turn one, and things are looking good for the Imperium – having crippled the only Tau ship on the board and within range to turn and fire again next turn. However in escalating engagements things can swing very quickly depending on whether any ships arrive in the next turn.

Stay tuned!

  1. Nice start to the battle report. I’m putting together my BFG modes at the moment, nearly finished the Imperial Fleet.
I’m keen to see the rest of the action, cheers!
